What's the difference between a mini-split and central AC?

Central AC moves cooled air through ductwork from one indoor coil. A ductless mini-split mounts the indoor coil directly in the room it cools, with a refrigerant line to an outdoor condenser. No ducts means no duct losses — but each zone needs its own head.

Can a ductless system heat as well as cool?

Yes. Most modern mini-splits are heat pumps that run both ways. Cold-climate models handle Okanagan winters well, typically down to -25°C with backup heat below that threshold.

How many heads do I need?

Depends on how many zones you want controlled independently. One open-plan living space: usually one head. A three-bedroom home wanting individual control: 3–4 heads off one multi-zone outdoor unit.

Are mini-splits noisy?

Indoor heads are quiet — often quieter than a furnace blower. The outdoor condenser is louder but quieter than central AC. Placement matters; we plan it to avoid bedroom windows and primary outdoor living spaces.

Do ductless systems qualify for rebates in BC?

Many cold-climate heat pump mini-splits qualify for CleanBC and BC Hydro or FortisBC rebates. The qualifying equipment list changes — we verify eligibility at quote time so you don't order a unit that misses the cutoff.

How long does installation take?

Single-head systems: typically one day. Multi-zone: one to two days depending on line routing and how many heads. Electrical and commissioning are included in the same visit.
