How long does a furnace typically last?

Most modern gas furnaces last 15 to 20 years with regular maintenance. Mid-efficiency units sometimes run longer, but efficiency and safety drop significantly past the 20-year mark. Once you're paying for repeat repairs on an older unit, replacement usually makes better financial sense.

Should I repair or replace my furnace?

A good rule of thumb is to replace if the unit is over 15 years old and the repair cost is more than a third of a new system. Cracked heat exchangers, repeat failures, and rising gas bills are also strong signals. We'll lay out both options honestly so you can decide.

How much does a new furnace cost to install?
